EcoCover, Air New Zealand and The Family Farm

EcoCover New Zealand is the proud supplier of EcoSquares (and EcoPins) to The Family Farm for their extensive native tree planting programme.

Air New Zealand, one of the most innovative airlines in the world, has established the Air New Zealand Environment Trust. This Trust provides a mechanism whereby airline passengers can elect to offset their flight travel carbon emissions by gifting to this Trust which in turn pays for the planting of native trees on this stunning property in the Hawkes Bay (New Zealand).

The Hart family who own this property tell their own story live in the video links below. Both are well worth watching.

Mr Greg Hart ensures the Air New Zealand Trust money is responsibly spent, each planting being secured with the protection of the EcoCover system – an EcoSquare / EcoPins. The Hawkes Bay region is presently experiencing the driest spring in 100 years with rainfall at 30% of the normal average. The EcoCover system is delivering on superb weed control (eliminating the use of chemical herbicides), excellent plant growth, and most importantly, plant survivability under very tough climatic conditions.

The photographs below are illustrative of some of the new plantings in 2009, now numbering tens of thousands.
